Born in Yonkers, New York, the son of Loretta Catherine (Cato) Russell Sloan (1925-1995) and Dennis Butler Russell (1923-1964). Brian's story is difficult to tell in that he had already served in Vietnam, was seriously wounded, sent stateside for recovery, and returned to Vietnam for a second tour when he was not administratively eligible and should not have been sent. Upon his return, he was attending an in-country orientation training with other newly assigned members of his unit when an enemy booby trap was detonated, killing Brian and 5 other men from his unit. In addition to his parents, he was survived by his maternal grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cato of Myrtle Beach S.C., sister Kathleen Margaret (Russell) Rohs (1948-2002), and brothers Thomas and Michael Russell of Peekskill. He was predeceased by his paternal grand parents Lillian M (Noonan) (1894-1956) and Thomas Edward Russell (1892-1960). He is buried in Hillside Cemetery, Cortlandt Manor, New York.
