SGT Gary Platt is buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Longmont, Boulder County, Colorado. He was survived by his mother, Shirley W. Platt, Boulder Colorado and his father Harold J. Platt (1920-1977), Nederland, Colorado. Gary and his father, a World War II veteran are buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Longmont, Boulder County, Colorado.

24 March 1966 Memorial

On 3 November 1965, 4 men were killed during an attack on their search and destroy operations patrol near their patrol base located 19 kilometers south of Duc Co, Pleiku Province, Republic of South Vietnam. SSG Platt was killed by small arms fire when hit in the left chest. The men who killed were:

  • A Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division
SSG Gary W Platt was awarded the Bronze Star for
Meritorious Service for the period 1 July 1965 to 2 November 1966 Gary W Platt

The 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry, 1st Air Cavalry Division held an 'In memoriam' program for the men from the battalion who were killed in action during the period of November 3, 1965 to March 24, 1966. The men who were memorialized were:
