SGT RUSSELL LEE PRICE
|
June 19, 2014I served with 1st squad, 2nd platoon, Company A, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. The date of KIA approaches for members of our 3rd squad. Sergeant Russel L. Price does not have a CIB on his profile data. He was the squad leader of the 3rd squad that was wiped out on 'Ambush Purple' on June 28th, 1966. We came over from Hawaii together as well as some other members of his squad, Harry Dyer, Carl Fell, Sgt Sheidt (RTO and FO from our mortar platoon), including some early replacements from February 1966. There were 12 men altogether that were killed that night. He took over the 3rd squad in late February. or early March. His MOS is listed as that of what he was doing in Hawaii: company armorer, but when he was killed, his duties were that of an 11B40 squad leader. I copied other members of my 2nd platoon, the former platoon RTO and a member of a machine gun crew. I hope this oversight can be corrected. I have procrastinated too long already, but once again as the anniversary date is near, the feeling of guilt is overwhelming. Thank youMegmer Moschkin 2/A/1/27 1965-66 The Virtual Wall database shows SGT Price's Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) at the time of his death was 76K30, General Supply Specialist, not 11B30, Infantry. The Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) is generated for our memorial pages based on MOS. Please read the information on our medals page for the types of proof needed for medals or a change of MOS to 11B which would allow us to add the CIB to SGT Price's memorial page. On 28 June 1966 Company A, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry, lost twelve men in a firefight east of Bao Trai. They were:
At the time of his death, Russell was survived by his wife Virginia L Price, daughters Rosslyn R and Margaret J Price of Baltimore and North Carolina, Also he was survived by his parents, Robbie S and Honeycutt Price, Baltimore. Records show he had a son, name not given, with Virginia in Baltimore. SGT Price is buried in Baltimore National Cemetery but his wife is not there at present. - - The Virtual Wall, April 21, 2018
