An ambush patrol from Company A, 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry, 25th Infantry Division were enroute to their unit's Night Defensive Position (NDP) when a booby trap detonated. The explosion killed 3 members to Company A. The men who were killed in this event were: PFC James Ray Muth, Coos Bay, Oregon SP4 Marvin Lee Ringoen, Glenville, Minnesota CPL Donald Ray Wishon, Berkley, Michigan

Funeral services were provided by North Bend chapel of Campbell-Watkins Funeral Homes for Private First Class James Ray Muth, 20, son of Mrs. Verna Muth of Coos Bay who was killed in action in Vietnam 7 Mar (1970). Born 19 Oct 1949 in North Bend, the young man was an infantryman with the U.S. Army. In addition to his mother he is survived by a half-brother, Charles Monroe; half-sisters, Beverly Jean Muth Perkins (1993), Lola Wildman, all of Coos Bay, and Maxine Quemada, Montebello CA; sisters, Linda Muth and Kathy Lohrke, Coos Bay; grandparents, Raymond Victor Muth, Coos Bay and Mr. and Mrs. Francis Tedford, Benton AR. From a 2009 on line article titled "Veterans describe rewards, sacrifices: From wartime promise to near-death experience, local men remember overseas military service that changed their lives." "My Mission is Complete". It was a promise that Richard 'Rick' Stoltz took seriously, even though it took nearly four decades to fulfill. Stoltz, of North Canton, Ohio, promised his friend PFC James 'Jimmy' Ray Muth - and Muth promised Stoltz - that if anything happened to either of them, they would contact the other's family. A few months after making the promise to his friend, on March 7, 1970, Muth and two other soldiers with the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Mechanized Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division - SP4 Marvin Lee Ringoen, Glenville, Minnesota and CPL Donald Ray Wishon, Berkley, Michigan - were killed by a booby trap enroute to their Night Defensive Perimeter (NDP). After a long search, Stolz located Jimmy's sister Kathy Pyle and was finally able to tell the family what happened that day, and other days while with Jimmy. They hoped to meet in 2010 in Oregon.
