The official Army Casualty Report states: Individual was killed while on guard duty at base camp when the area came under mortar attack by hostile force. CPL Howard Raymond "Butch" McCord was survived by his parents, Dee and Harold R McCord, Sr and brothers Ken, Gary and Randy.
