According to Marine Chronology Reports for that time period, on 29 February at 1035 hours, Alpha Company, on a Company size search and destroy operation at Grid YD746159 apprehended two Vietnamese males with NVA documents. Results were two detainees for evacuation for questioning.

At 1435 hours, the company received heavy small arms and automatic weapons fire, resulting in 3 U.S. KIA, 5 U.S. WIA (Evacuation), and 5 U.S. WIA (Minor wounds). Received more small arms and automatic weapons fire. Returned fire and called in heilcopter gunship and Tactical Air Strikes (TACAIR). Unknown enemy casualties.

The company moved into night defensive positions with plans to resume search and destroy operations at first light. The enemy was determined to be in the direction of YD748166. As a follow up to earlier reports, the company evacuated another two wounded and changed Evacuated to 7 and minor wounded to 3. Three Marines were killed as a result of the contact. They were:

SSG LaFrambooise served in the United States Army for 12 years. Born in San Diego, Laframboise had been a skydiver since 1963. During 8 years of his service, he volunteered for paratroop duty. In September 1967, after being stationed at Fort Myers, Virginia, he was ordered to Vietnam, beginning his tour of duty on January 3, 1968. In a short two months later he was killed in action.

He was survived by his widow Shirley and 3 sons (Gary, Douglas, and Todd Lance Laframboise (1961-1993)), 426 Cuyamaca Street, El Cajon California. He was also survived by his parents, Isabelle Juanita Wetherbee Laframboise (1915-1974) and Leon Savoy Laframboise (1911-1982), 1951 47th Street, San Diego and his brother Leon William Laframboise (1938-1996), also in the Army (Fort Bliss National Cemetery, El Paso, Texas).

SSG Laframboise was buried in FT Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, California. His parents are buried 7 miles [11.3 km] to the East Northeast (ENE) in Mount Hope Cemetery, San Diego, California.
