Between the 19th and 21st of March 1967, the United States lost 52 servicemen. On 21 March 1967, at Soui Tre in Tay Ninh Province, 400 men of the 3/22nd and the 2/77th Artillery stood off an attack by a reinforced regiment of North Vietnamese regulars until relieved by elements of the 2/22nd and the 2/34th Armor. The North Vietnamese lost the battle. The men of 2nd and 3rd Battalions, 22nd Infantry, 2nd Battalion, 77th Artillery, and 2nd Squadron, 34th Armor, lost thirty-eight friends and comrades. Two days earlier, on 19 March, HHC and Bravo Companies, 3/22 lost 10 men; 118th Assault Helicopter Company (AHC), tail number UH-1D 65-09942 lost 1 man; and 68th AHC, tail number UH-1D 64-13799 lost 3 men. The casualties in the helicopters were lost when hit by an enemy command detonated mine when they were landing or about to depart. The 14 men from 19 March were:
On 18 Aug 1968 Pfc Norman L Eversgerd, SP4 Marlin Eversgerd's younger brother, was killed in action while serving with the HQ Battery, 1st Field Artillery Group, 11th Marines. SP4 Norman Eversgerd was survived by his mother Erma Josephine Renschen Eversgerd-Gallatin (1925-2014), father Christopher Frank Eversgerd (1916-1979) and siblings Norman (1948-1969), James (1947-2011), Duane, Larry, Darlene, Linda, and Donald "Dino". They are all buried in Saint Boniface Cemetery, Germantown, Clinton County, Illinois. |
