As part of the 4th Infantry Division's OPERATION MAC ARTHUR, in Binh Tay Province, Fire Support Base 14, later renamed FSB "Incoming", was one of several fire support bases located along the ridgeline which overlooks the northern end of the Plei Trap Valley, about 15 miles east of the Cambodian border in the Central Highlands of South Vietnam. On the night of 26 March 1968 LZ Incoming was attacked by elements of the NVA's 325C Division.

The NVA succeeded in breeching the perimeter wire and capturing two of the artillery pieces which were then used against the US soldiers. Nineteen Americans are known to have died in the fight - they were:
Joseph M Brown was born and raised in the Detroit Michigan area. He attended De La Salle Collegiate High School in Detroit starting in 1964. Based on his Veteran Affairs record, he entered the service on 20 March 1967, which was what before a 1967 graduation from high school. The photos from below were from his high school year books from Freshman (1964) and Sophomore years (1965). None located for his Junior or Senior year.

He volunteered to join the Army as he was listed on his casualty report as "Regular Army" and not Selective Service. He began his tour in Vietnam on November 5, 1967 and five months later was killed in the mortar attack on Fire Support Base 14, also known as FSB Incoming. 
PFC Joseph M Brown was survived by his wife Sally A Brown and daughter Delphia Lynn, Detroit, mother Germaine Pascoe, La Puenta, California, father Robert Charles Brown (1920-1988), Detroit Michigan and sister Kathleen Ann (Brown) Yingling (1947-2007), Taylor, Michigan. Jospeh is buried in Woodmere Cemetery, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.
