Flagstaff GI Dies In Asia
October 14, 1971 Tucson Daily Citizen, Arizona - Page 39 "WASHINGTON (AP) - A Flagstaff serviceman has died in Southeast Asia, the Defense Department reports. Officials said Spec. 4 Jeffery L. Wright, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don A. Wright, of Flagstaff, died of nonhostile causes." What the short article did not reveal was SP4 Jeffery L. Wright became ill with malaria. He was hospitalized at Long Binh Post in Bien Hoa Province, RVN, when on September 30, 1971, he suffered a fatal heart attack as a consequence of his illness. He was 18 years-old. In November 1972, a photo was posted by the Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, that his mother received his medals. On November 18, 2012, his brother posted on an internet web site the following: "Jeff - You are missed very much by your family. I went to D.C. last weekend but didn't stop by to say hello. I'll be back in May and for sure will stop by. Your nephews Jeff and Robbie would have loved to have known you. Mom is doing good for being 96 yrs old. I'm sure she will be seeing you soon. She has lived everyday for you. Bob is still in Flagstaff, self employed. He retired from the Sedona Fire Dept. and lives in Palmerdale. I'll see you in May. Got to go. Love and miss you very much. Your Bro, Chuck" SP4 Jeffery Lynn Wright is buried with his mother Frances Nadine (Kroll) Wright (1916-2014) and father Donald Acheson Wright (1908-1984) in Citizens Cemetery, Flagstaff, Coconino County, Arizona. - - The Virtual Wall, November 16, 2019
