In memory of Dean St. Pierre

Dean was my swimming instructor at the local YMCA and attended the
same church. He was a kind and decent person. I was terrified
of the water at first and he eventually taught me to be a strong
swimmer. So many of the things I have enjoyed in my life since
then have involved being on or around the water- I have often
thought how different my life might be if Dean hadn't taught me to
swim.

Dean was born in October 1941 to parents Harold and Lois.
He grew up in Kankakee Illinois and graduated from Western
Illinois University, where he was in Air Force ROTC I think.
He must have been an Education major, because my sister remembers
having Dean as a student teacher in one of her classes.
Dean was married, his wife's name was Linda.

Dean was MIA on May 22, 1968 in Quang Binh Province.
He was in the second seat of an F4 commanded by Capt. John Crews.
They were assigned to the 433rd Tactical Fighter Squadron based at
Ubon Royal Thai AFB. Dean's status was changed to "died while missing"
on January 7, 1974.

Aircraft wreckage that appears to be John and Dean's plane has been
found, but no remains have been recovered yet as far as I know.
May they and all the others be found and brought home.

Dean, I wish you were still with us.

To Linda, if you read this, I would be glad to hear from you.
