My brother was known as Pat, or "Smokey". We were so close we were almost twins. His best friend was my best friend's boyfriend in high school. We did everything together. I am now 50 years old and still cannot get over his not being around. He died a hero. He received the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, the Purple Heart, etc. He died firing at the enemy while his troops took cover. What a man, what a hero. He will always be loved and missed.

On this Memorial Day 2004 I wish to honor this hero. I, too, grew up and still live in Washington State and was born the on very same day, May 2, 1949. I never knew Pat but our shared birthdate and state somehow links us together. May God Bless Pat and his family, especially his sister Colleen -- my thoughts and prayers are with you.
