REMEMBEREDbyRobert L. Blum Brother-In-Law On 18 April 1968, a patrol was sent out by Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division. Ther met with an unknown size enemy force and engaged in a firefight. Company B lost 5 men, two receiving a Silver Star.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Donald Jacob Smith (1912-1965). He was survived by his wife Felixia (Bowles) Smith, Remus Michigan, mother Dorothy Mae (Wood) Smith (1915-1998), sisters Sue (Peter) Sinkevich, Albany, NY, Mrs. Percy Woodward, Albany, NY, Marcia Jean (Smith) Vanderbilt (1939-2012), and Judith K. (Smith) Blum (1944-2001); brothers Donald Jacob Smith, Jr (1933-Dec 10 ), Lester Raymond Smith II (1935-1993), and William Roger Smith (1936-2013). SSG Robert James Smith is buried in Memory Gardens Cemetery and Memorial Park, Colonie, Albany County, New York, along with his mother, and sister Judith while his father is buried in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderland, Albany County, New York as are brothers Lester and William. - - The Virtual Wall, 04 December 2023
