In Memory of CDR Robert Saavedra I Am Not DeadDo not stand at my grave and weep;I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow; I am diamond glints of snow; I am the sunlight on ripened grain; I am the gentle autumn's rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush; I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds encircled flight. I am the soft star that shines at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there, I did not die. Lyrics by Mary Frye (1932) and Wilbur Skeels (1996) Robert Saavedra was a career Navy pilot. He loved the United States and he loved to fly. He left for Vietnam in October, 1967 on board the USS KITTY HAWK. He left a wife and four children ages 8, 5, 2 and 5 months. CDR Saavedra was shot down on April 28, 1968. He was the leader of a two-plane section of A-4E aircraft on a night armed reconnaissance mission. Their mission was to attack any target of opportunity encountered along routes 151 and 1A in North Vietnam. CDR Saavedra was placed in a missing in action status and has been continued in that status.
