27 Jun 2004 Bob was a good friend of mine. We became close since he was assigned to my platoon in 1967. He was one of the finest young men and Marine that I have ever met. I understand that he may have been from a military career family. It showed in his demeanor, his esprit de corps, and his squared away nature. He was aggressive and highly efficient and rose through mike company fairly quickly. He became the company radioman and held that position when he was killed on that terrible day, December 27, 1967, a day that will live on in the annals of 3/1 forever. Many Marines died in that battle - 48 - and many were wounded as well - over 100 - in an idyllic village located on the South China Sea in the I Corps area of Vietnam. I still miss him as I do many of our comrades that died that day and throughout my tour. Although it has been almost 37 years we will never forget Bob and those who left everything they had to give in Vietnam nor will we ever forget their families that suffered because of their service to our country. Their lives were not wasted by their presence in Vietnam - many of us, including me, are home. God bless Bob and all those who died.
