The official notification of death to the family noted: Died 28Feb68 in 106th U.S. Army General Hospital Yokohoma Japan as a result of fragmentation wounds to the body sustained 20Feb68 Quang Tri Province (01) Republic of Vietnam from a hostile explosive device while on patrol.

At the time of Jerry's death, the family was living at 421 North Walnut, Boonville Indiana 47601.

Jerry is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Boonville, Indiana. His father, James Edward Miller, who served in the Navy during World War II, is buried in the same family plot along with brother/son Larry R who passed away in 2002.

Jerry's mother, Josephine Jeanette (Collins) Miller, passed away March 29, 2008. Part of her obituary read: "She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James (Dick) Miller in 1990, sons, Jerry E. Miller in 1968 and Larry R. Miller in 2002, parents, Joseph and Goldie Collins, brother, William "Bill" Collins, sisters, Betty LaCour, Genieve Luttrell and Helen Driskell, and four grandchildren, Jeanette, Patty, Brian and Alfred Miller."

"She was survived by two daughters, Geraldine Green of Boonville and Josephine Bratcher of Boonville; four sons, Carl and Gerald Miller, both of Boonville, and Joe and Adam Miller, both of Rockport; a sister, Marjorie Shoulders of Boonville; 27 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren."
