Although you were my cousin,
I had not time to know you.
You died in a stupid war
when you were only twenty-two.

I visited the Wall this week
and looked upon your name
and hearing shouts from protesters
I knew things were still the same.

They're talking war in Iraq
and boys prepare to die
and soon they will be joining you
as in their graves they lie.

I miss you, Bill and often wish
that you had not gone to give
your life for fighting battles
so the rest of us might live.
