Lieutenant, Junior Grade (LTJG) David George Kearney, was attached to the 7th Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) Infantry Division as Naval Liaison Officer. He was not required to ride the Patrol Boats, River (PBRs) but he wanted to learn and perform his job better, so he went with on patrol. March 11, 1967 changed the lives of all of his buddies. He was killed in action from small arms fire.

LTJG Kearney is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington Virginia, Section 33, Site 5346

A friend and Vietnam Veteran, Jerry Goodchild, provided the photo he had from their time together in Japan prior to Vietnam
