REMEMBERINGtwo of my high school friends, and Ricky L. James
From a classmate, |
Okie, you'll always be in my thoughts.
Love ya, man, |
I just found Rick's site. I am just now getting computer knowledge and have a ways to go. Just wanted to say I think of my old friend Rick James often, even after 36 years. We always said we'd keep in touch when we returned home to Oklahoma from our little trip to Viet Nam. Unfortunately Rick died in a far away country on a wet and miserable day in 1971. I don't remember all the details, just hearing the words Romeo Juliet on the PRC-25 radio. I still remember the chill I felt when I realized it was Rick James. He was a good guy and a good soldier who like the rest of us just wanted to do his job and go back to the world and continue with his life. I have his name from the moving wall. I've always wondered about his family and friends back in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. For anyone who happens to read this from a fellow soldier with the 1/61st Infantry, he loved you and he loved his Country. He died an honorable death for a cause he believed in.
