Sergeant Hoover, you were in Gerry's platoon. You may have even been his friend. On the day the Lord took you home, you were involved in operation Crazy Horse. Your platoon was ambushed by a reenforced NVA batallion. I've spoken to other men who told me that you broke from your platoon to inform the command group that your Platoon Leader LT Crum was dead. You got to them, and so did your message, and then they took you from us.

Mr. Hoover, I didn't know you. I do however know your battle, your bravery, your courage, and the freedom you gave me will not be wasted for one second. You were all so young, yet so willing to take on the responsibility of defending a nation.

Sergeant Hoover, I want to thank you for your sacrifice. I will do my best to let others know of your heroism.

"HONOR AND COURAGE"

In memory of Gerry Metcalf,
James Oldham
