Pfc William L. Hines was drowned in a river crossing and was carried as missing until his body was recovered several days later. He had gotten married just before the 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne, shipped out of Fort Campbell in 1965. I have been looking for his wife and daughter since the war and would welcome contact with anyone who can help locate them.
15 Feb 2004 On 13 February 2004 I met with Pfc William L. Hines' sisters and brother and it was one of the happiest days of my life. After 38 years, I have once again accomplished my mission by meeting this great family just to tell them about their brother and how good a Soldier and Paratrooper he was.
If any of you old Company Commanders, Platoon Leaders, Platoon Sergeants and Squad Leaders can meet with a family member of a Soldier you lost in that hell hole it will take a load off your mind.
