Missing You, Bud

It's been 32 years since you left and I never got to say goodbye. We had the best of times growing up as kids and it was all taken away on a day when I was at my duty station in Washington D.C. I will never forget the smile you used to wear and the laugh that sticks in my head to this day. Our Legion Post 181 in Randolph, NY, just dedicated a monument on the front lawn of the Post on November 11th, 2001, to all the veterans who have served their country. It was a time that memories of you flashed back throughout the whole ceremony and it was then that I thought I should say "Goodbye, Bud".

Bill and I were good friends in Maharashtra, India. He and I were then members of India 41, a Peace Corps group that was introducing new agricultural methods to the farmers in our area. He resigned early so that he could return to his love. I later found out he had been killed in Viet Nam. Such a shame. His laugh still makes me smile. He was so caring about others. I wish I could communicate to his parents just how wonderful a friend and person he was. Perhaps this entry will do that.
