Calvin Gish War Victim A 23-year-old Logansport native, who was making the Navy his career, died in Vietnam, just 16 days before he was to return from his third tour of duty there. The victim is BM/2 Calvin Robert Gish, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Robert Gish, [Anna E] who formerly lived here on Tanguy St. The father was employed at SUS Die Casting Co. for a number of years prior to moving to Highland in 1963. No details were released by the Defense Department on the youth's death which was reported to have occurred July 2. The victim attended Logansport High School, completing his senior year at Highland, and enlisted in the Navy in the spring of 1964 shortly after graduation. After, boot camp at Great Lakes he was sent to California for frogman training. This was followed by his first tour of duty of 18 months in Vietnam. Mrs. Calvin Reinke, Walton, an aunt, said he was planning to marry Julia Bronson of Highland next month. Survivors with his parents are a sister, Mrs. Donald Salmon, Highland; grandmother, Mrs. John Baylis, Hammond; three aunts and an uncle in this area: Mrs. Reinke, Walton, Junior Gish, Rt. 2, Logansport; Mrs. James Luduck, 530 Plum St.; and Mrs. Willis Craig, Walton. The body has been returned to the Oleska Funeral Home in East Chicago where friends may call after 7 p.m. Tuesday. - - Logansport Pharos Tribune and Press, 14 July 1970, Page 1 (Indiana) At the time of his death, Calvin's parents were living on River Drive, Highland, Indiana. As of today, it is unknown where Calvin is buried or if his parents are still living and if not, where they may have been laid to rest.
