A Note from The Virtual Wall The Long Binh Post just outside Saigon was the Army's largest logistics base in Vietnam. At about 2 AM, 23 Feb 1969, the post received large-caliber rocket fire, followed by a ground attack. A small number of enemy soldiers penetrated the post perimeter before being hunted down and killed. Overall, 7 US servicemen were killed and 31 wounded, while 132 enemy troops were killed and 6 captured. The American dead were LTC William W.
