~ * ~ In Memory of Col. Gilland Wales Corbitt ~ * ~ Today I visited the Vietnam traveling wall, just like I do every year. I searched your name out on panel 24 E, line 5. I traced your name again, laid a flower in your honor. I have never met you, or your family. I know nothing about you, except that you must have been a brave man. I have proudly worn your name upon the bracelet on my arm for many years, in hopes that one day you would return so that I could give it to you, to let you know that you were not forgotten, and prayers for you and your family were said. Even though the color and etching on the bracelet are worn and getting bare, the memory of you will be eternal.
* Gone but not forgotten *

I have recently found my bracelet remembering Colonel Gilland Wales Corbitt. I've had it for over thirty years. I didn't know the man personally, but when I think of his death it still brings tears. So to his family, friends, comrades and loved ones - to this day he is remembered. Thank you for your sacrifice and service!
Sincerely,
Harry Robert Conaway II |
