I did not personally know Ray, we were neighbors but out in the country you don't always get to know every one personally. His mother worked in our little country store. He was killed a short time after my brother Donald and I just felt so very sad about it. He is buried in the little cemetery on the hill overlooking Mount Saint Helens, there is a beautiful little chapel there over 100 years old. It is overlooking his parents' farm. He was a good boy and I know he would have grown to become a good man.

I am so proud to have such a hero in our family. With the world in such disarray it is nice to think that Raymond loved others as well as country more than himself. HE IS STILL GREATLY MISSED!!
From a cousin, |
I was with Ray when he died that day in Vietnam. We were on patrol when we took enemy fire from a hedgerow in front of us. Terry Ogami and I went to pull Ray behind some cover, but he was already dead. As I grabbed Ray, Terry went down, shot in the head. Both Ray and Terry died at my side that day, the worst day of my life. I had the opportunity to e-mail Ms. Kirk, whose comment is posted here as well. A wonderful lady who inspired me with her compassion. God bless Terry and Ray. I'll never forget them or that day, EVER.
