A Note from The Virtual WallOperation CORONADO XI, conducted in an area 5 kilometers southwest of Can Tho on 26 and 27 Feb 1968, pitted elements of the Navy's Riverine Force and the Army's 3rd Battalion, 60th Infantry against a mixed NVA/VC main force battalion. On 26 Feb the troops were landed to the northwest of the expected contact area and moved to the southeast, planning to press the enemy against the Can Tho River, which was being patrolled by the Navy's boats. The plan succeeded; although isolated groups managed to escape to the east side of the Cam Tho River the enemy was destroyed as a fighting force.Nineteen soldiers and two sailors were killed in the action:
