15 Jun 2001 May 14, 1945 - June 26, 1966 The beginning and the end, but there was so much in between and so much hope for the future. What you cannot read in the lines above is that Ivor was the only son in a family that included his mother, father, sister, brother-in-law, two nephews, a host of aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him very much. It also does not tell you that he was in love with a beautiful young girl with dreams of a future that "just might include marriage". Ivor was a kind-hearted person with a great, easy smile, and a beautiful singing voice. He often sang in church and on special occasions. One of the last times he sang in our church would have been at the funeral of a neighbor and close friend. I remember him talking about how difficult that was for him, but how he didn't want to let the family down. That is just the kind of person he was. He also had a fun loving side. I always loved it when he helped my Dad on the farm, he was always singing, cutting up, and having a good time. I can still hear him singing his rendition of "Splish, Splash, I was Taking A Bath". So many memories, treasured and never to be forgotten.... Let's not forget that behind each name on the wall you will find a son or daughter, brother or sister, and a friend. A Note from The Virtual Wall The 5th Infantry History contains the following entry for 26 June 1966: "On June 26, 1966, the battalion moved to the Ho Bo Woods area. Company A made contact at a bunker tunnel complex. In the ensuing firefight one Bobcat was killed and 13 were wounded, of whom 7 were dusted off. 2 Company A APCs had hit AT mines. At 1432 hours Company C encountered a large command bunker with an extensive tunnel complex. During the fight which followed, 2 Bobcats were killed and 6 were wounded. 2 of the WIA were returned to duty. " The three men who died were A Company: PFC Ivor E. Bunch, Hobbsville, NC C Company: PSGT Hachiro Imae, Kahului, HI SP4 James L. Northrop, Newton, KS
