04 Aug 2004 I remember Mike as having that contageous smile and a great dog by the name of Lady. Mike was a Dog Handler with the 42nd Scout Dog Platoon. He always requested to go with the 3rd Plt of A Co 1/327 Inf of the 1st Bde 101st Abn Div. We all got to know him very well and with pride he would show some of us a picture of his girl back home. I think by him not being Airborne made him feel "left out" as he saw the tight brotherhood us Paratroopers had. He and his dog Lady found numerous items from the enemy, weapons and land mines and other things as well. We did not see him for a while and Rick "Sam" Sanders and I were commenting on that when Mike walked into the supply tent up in Quang Nagi where Sam and I were smoking a cigar. I said to him, "Mike you sure do look different". All smiling with his chest out. There was something different about him and we just couldn't put our fingers on it. So, we just stood there and all of a sudden Timmons (who came in the middle of this conversation), Sam and I said in unision, "YOU GOT YOUR JUMP WINGS." We all shook his hand three or four times saying to him "all right Airborne" and asked him where did he go for the training and we again shook his hand saying "Airborne, Mike." The days leading up to his death his dog Lady found numerous land mines and enemy supplies. He also was put in for an Army Commendation Medal with "V" Device on 13 May 67. I was his medic, I was near him when he was killed (20'). I couldn't really help him much because I was also wounded in the head and was knocked out. Mike was a great Airborne Solider.
