Mark Anthony Anderson's official home-of-record is Pennington, Minnesota. However, there are other locations that may call him a "home-town boy."

Mark Anthony Anderson was born in Hallock, Minnesota but spent most of his life living in Newfolden, Minnesota and graduated from Marshall County Central High School in Newfolden, Minnesota. Thief River Falls is in Pennington County. His parents were living in Thief River Falls at the time of Mark's death.

Mark began his tour in Vietnam on May 11, 1967. Thirteen days later on May 24, he was killed while on a combat operation when a booby trap exploded, the fragments killing him. After his family was notified two days later, local area newspapers reported his death as well.

All of the tribute websites show that Mark's "Home of Record" was Pennington, Minnesota which is in Beltrami County. He was actually from Newfolden, Minnesota which is in Marshall County and his family has tried for several years to get that corrected with no success.

The family also tried to get the record changed to say Mark was from Thief River Falls, Minnesota or at least from Pennington County, Minnesota. His brother and sister-in-law would be thankful to anyone that can help in setting the record straight.

The Department of Defense uses Home of Record for something different than "Home". His home of record was indicated when he was drafted and processed into the service. You can read more about Home of Record here.

Mark was survived by his mother Lovisa J. Anderson (1915-1990), father Theodore C. Anderson (1907-1998), sister Vivian, and two brothers, Myron and Merlin. Mark is buried in Salem Cemetery, Augsburg, Marshall County, Minnesota while his parents are interred in Evergreen Cemetery, Bemidji, Beltrami County, Minnesota.
