The database page for Raymond Lawrence Whelpley
I am hoping that I have spelled Raymond's name correctly. I know his name is on the Wall because I have seen it. My name is Jenny Kesler (Wood) and Raymond and I went to the same church in Michigan. I had lost touch with Raymond when I moved away and was saddened when I learned he had died in Vietnam. Raymond was a wonderful Christian man and served well for his country. I was very blessed knowing him. Rest in Peace, Raymond.

A Note from The Virtual WallOn 5-6 September 1968, seven Companies of the 101st Airborne Division conducted a cordon and search operation directed at locating and destroying the 7th VC Local Force Battalion. During the night of 6 September 1968 the 7th VC broke through the Alpha 3/187 position. Although Alpha 3/187 held its position against the much larger enemy force, SP4 Raymond L. Whelpley and 30 others died in fierce hand-to-hand combat. Overall, 34 American soldiers died in the three days at Ap Tran Dau:
