The database page for Robert Lee Watts
Bobby Watts won the Illinois High School Association Long Jump Championship in 1958 and was 2nd in 1959. I was 5 years old at the time and I remember my brother, who was in Bobby's class ('59) taking me to some of the meets. When I was old enough to attend Jacksonville High school I recall passing by a large photo of Bobby and his coach taken on the day Bobby won his championship. I also remember passing by this photo a few days after Bobby died in Vietnam. Until then the war had been something that was happening somewhere else to someone else. Bobby's death brought home to all of us the horrible price that must sometimes be paid in the defense of freedom. I am proud that Bobby was a Crimson. I am proud of his service to his country. I will never forget.
