Paying tribute to this young hero.

Duncan A. Warwick and I served together in Vietnam with 2nd Platoon, Company B, 1st Battalion, 505th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 82nd ABN. I did not have the chance to get to know him well during the short time we served together before his death. In June 1969, our unit started patrolling the areas in the Pineapple west of Tan Son Nhut AFB to the Vam Go Dong River. This area was covered by canals, ditches and streams, and was always under enemy surveillance. The area included deserted pineapple fields and hostile muddy terrain where dry land was rare, but one could find mosquitoes, leeches and ringworm in abundance.

There is an inscription on a gate at Arlington National Cemetery that reads

"Rest easy, sleep well, my brothers.
Know the line has held, your job is done.
Rest easy, sleep well.
Others have taken up where you fell,
the line has held. Peace, peace, and farewell..."

I will always be grateful for his bravery as well as his kindness and humor. America is proud of his service and his final sacrifice.

This hero made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam - killed in action 1969.

Rest well in the Mighty Hands of God, Duncan A. Warwick, and know
that you will NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

From a comrade,
John Nichols
