Jim succeeded me as 1st Platoon Leader, C Troop, 2nd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment. For a few weeks before I left the Platoon, we worked in tandem while he learned the job. He was a very high caliber person and we became friends and, as they say, brothers. What happened to this fine man on October 25, 1969 took place in a very dangerous section of Highway 1, where bad things had happened before and would again. I was in the hospital and learned of it when I came out. I was shocked and heartbroken. Jim remains alive in my thoughts and memories to this day and he will forever.
