09 Feb 2006 The Lord gathers the best roses in the garden. He is the Gardener. It is His wish to be surrounded by the glorious beauty of His very own creation. Ron Sadler was the most beautiful soul I have ever known. His impact on my life has been transforming throughout the past 30 years. His life was shortened by the war. Yet I believe God lifted him up to a higher, more protected place, after allowing him to touch our lives here. A Note from The Virtual Wall Hue, the ancient imperial capital of Vietnam, was a primary objective for the enemy in the Tet Offensive. Much of the city had been occupied by the VC at the end of January and it had taken three weeks of vicious fighting before the city had been cleared - but VC and NVA forces still were abundant in the surrounding countryside. In the third week of March 1968 the 2nd Battalion, 501st Infantry was conducting sweeps west of Hue in an effort to locate and destroy VC/NVA units. The battalion lost 25 men during a series of engagements between 21 and 26 March 1968. The first of these engagements involved an attack on Bravo 2/502's night position on 21 March. Three men are known to have been killed in the fight: SP4 Daniel F. Bettencourt, San Diego, CA; CPL Raymond L. Mason, Baltimore, MD; and PFC Joseph E. Robinson, Sanford, MI. On 24 March PFC Ronald F. Sadler died of wounds previously received. The date he was injured isn't available, but it seems possible that he was one of the men wounded in the 21 March attack.
