It's been 35 years since you gave your life in service to our country. Your sacrifice has never been forgotten, especially by me. In a truly "There but for the Grace of God..." situation, you were in a physical location which I would have been in otherwise. At those times when life isn't quite what I would like, I try to remember that, knowing that every day is an "extra day" for me. Although it was only five months, we became best of friends for a lifetime. A person could sense that you always looked to do the right thing, and were truly the best this country has to offer. It is our loss that you never had the chance to reach your potential here at home. You continue to live on in our memory as my oldest son was given your name for his middle name. Now he is 15, and old enough to go to The Wall to make the connection to what it means. Seeing your/his name on Panel 19W hopefully will bond him to your memory for his lifetime. An old Irish blessing ends with "May you be in Heaven a half hour before the devil knows you're dead."

Danny, If I may, let me tell you how your gravesite motivated me to cut the cemetery in which you lay as my way to honor you. I was contacted by Joe Voegele in an attempt to find your gravesite at the Wesleyan Cemetery. Joe and the Aiken Alumni yearly honor all of the heros from the Vietnam War, but we could never find your grave. Well, the grass was six feet high and and covering all 25 acres of the cemetery. A disgrace for a cemetery full of veterans in the middle of Cincinati, Ohio. We even found a Medal of Honor recipient from the Civil War. Once forgotten, but no more. There were four of us who walked the cemetery over and over to try and locate your grave, but never any success. Then Joe called me one day to say they had finally found your gravesite. Hell, it was in the second row! I could have kicked your butt! We all must have passed over it too many times to remember. That day I decide to cut the cemetery if it took me all summer and it did. I was supported by a number of volunteers, none of which I knew upon their arrival. They had read the news stories and came for various reasons, but they all knew they had to help. I owe them a tremendous "THANK YOU" because without them I would have never been able to complete my promised task. So, Danny even in death you have made a difference. The smiles and tears brought back to the visitors to the now clean cemetery was as broad and bright as the one the day I meet you. I tried desperately to find a family member of yours to share the above story, but it was not meant to be. We will always miss you and never forget your sacrifice. Thank You
