It seems there are certain people who have touched us in the past who live on inside us even after so many years have passed us by. That is the way Reeves' infectious laugh and keen sense of humor have followed me all these years. I tell my students about him and his laugh periodically. Reeves' favorite saying was, "Don't get me wrong soldier, check your own self out." Then, he would laugh and so would we.

You could hear him coming from yards away and were glad of it, too. Everyone wanted to be around him. He made the harsh reality of war just a little more pleasant. That is a gift to be coveted. Well, Reeves, it's been a while since Charlie Company. That was in '68. You were the first one of the boys we said good-bye to.

Reeves died when 080 took multiple hits. Hopsicker was FE that day and was wounded; the next day, Ron Turner took her over, a CH-47 Chinook helicopter. Reeves was riding left gun when he died.

That bullet took a wonderful soul from us that day. Reeves was a Christian, so he gained so much more than he had had with us, but we lost a lot when he was stolen away. I’ll see you again one day. I sure hope the rest of our boys join us. I’ve heard some have.

Folks, don’t forget our young, brave soldiers as they give their all like Reeves and others have done.
