Larry Phelps, at 19 a persuasive and positive leader, was close to his family and cared about his friends. He was thoughtful, treating others with respect and kindness. His personality was deep and broad, as he was also a black belt in karate, a vegetarian, and a young man of conviction who practiced his faith and loved his country.

The Phelps family was from Denton, Texas. Larry was the oldest of a number of brothers. He graduated from Highland High School in Albuquerque, NM. Polishing his new candy apple red Ford Fairlane GTA 390 335 HP was a favorite pastime, until he decided to study Architecture at the University of New Mexico. He sold the Fairlane for tuition. Selective Service interrupted college and he entered the Army. His mother told me, "When children are little they step on your toes and when they grow up they step on your heart." While in the Army, Larry married and had a son.

I know he influenced the lives of those he knew, because he made a great difference in my life. Surprised that he was not part of The Virtual Wall, I felt this is the least I can do. I visited the Wall and made a rubbing of Larry's name to send on to his relatives, who I haven't located. I have missed him now for 37 years.

Respectfully,
Lynzee Browning.

The Phelps family is from Dexter, Texas and locations near by. Recently Larry's Mother located me through this web site. We correspond and I sent her the rubbing of Larry's name from my visit to the Wall.

I have missed him now for 39 years.

Respectfully,
Lynzee Engel Browning
