A Note from The Virtual WallOn 04 November 1967 "A" Company, 3/8 Infantry, encountered an NVA/VC unit at Hill 724 in Kontum Province. Two Americans were killed in the engagement, CPT John V. Taylor of Berkeley, Missouri, and 1LT C. G. Nuckles. Additional units of the 4th Infantry Division were brought in and engaged in heavy fighting during separate engagements on 07, 08, 10, and 11 November. Overall, 48 American soldiers died at Hill 724. The heaviest fighting was on 11 Nov 1967 (Veterans' Day), with 21 dead from the 3rd Battalion, 8th Infantry. On that day B Company bore the brunt of the Battalion's losses - 17 of 21 total. |
