John McChesney and I were best friends in high school at Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix, Arizona in 1965. John was the Great-Grandson of the founder of the School (his mother was a Brophy). John was one of the brightest persons I ever knew. He had the potential to achieve great things in his life. It is a tragedy that his life was so abruptly ended in Vietnam in 1968. I was not with his unit in Vietnam but I am sure he fought with the courage and valor that was a part of his character. My condolences go out to his family and friends for having suffered such a great loss. I apologize for not contacting you earlier to express my sincere regrets, but I also was in Vietnam with B Co 2/502 Infantry, 101st Abn Div, when John was there. I was seriously wounded in action on May 28, 1968 and have spent the last 35 years trying to deal with my personal scars from that war. I hope this memorial will be a lasting tribute to someone who gave the ultimate sacrifice of their life for their country and will never be forgotten by those of us who knew him and were fortunate enough to call him a friend.
