Calvin, better known as "Cal" to his family and friends, was born in Wichita Fall, Texas. He grew up in the small agriculture community of Sylvester, Texas which is north of Sweetwater, Texas. The community had about 60 residents. He attended high school nearby in McCaulley, Texas and also in Sweetwater, Texas and was a 1965 graduate. He liked to hunt and fish. He and his friends liked to swim in the river, especially on Christmas Day! He had plans to come home and raise cattle on the little piece of land that he and his siblings had inherited from their grandfather. He was a crew chief on a helicopter and it was shot down when it was making a gun run.
He is remembered by his community and by the Permian Basin Vietnam Veterans' Memorial in Midland, Texas. May his sacrifice not be forgotten.

Thanks for all your sacrifice for our country. You and the others will never be forgotten. I grew up close to where you did ... in McCaulley, Texas.
