Walter (Wally) Grove was a friend in the truest sense of the word.

As teenagers, we don't always appreciate that, but as adults, we hopefully have come to value that as much as life itself.

Wally was always willing to give; he gave all he had to his country, and I will remember him like that.

Wally is pictured in the photo, to the far left, with our high school hot rod club, the "Injectors" of Barrington, Illinois, in 1961.

Wally, we love you.

WALLY

You were a great friend growing up in Tower Lakes and going through grade school and high school together. We had some real adventures. Friends are very precious to me. After 40 years the Injectors still keep in touch with each other. Art, Jim, Jeff, Jay, Fred, Bob, Lee, and I still have you in our hearts --

INJECTORS FOREVER --- LOVE TRACE

Dear Wally,

We were friends. We were hot-rodders. We were soldiers -- cogs in a powerful machine. I prayed long and hard that if I had a son he would not have to do what we did in Vietnam. I was blessed, and Mike and his friends were spared what you and I and our friends faced. We fought hard. The world today, somehow, is a better place today because of what we did. Memories of the good times young men have together live on, and in them is love.

From a friend,
Jay O'Laughlin

The 3rd Battalion, 60th Infantry, lost nine men on 01 June 1968:
  • A Company:
    • SGT Frank W. Campbell, Chilhowie, VA
    • SP4 James E. Hopkins, Lucama, NC

  • B Company:
    • SSG Cal W. Williams, Augusta, GA
