IN MEMORIAM

In loving memory of our son and brother,
Michael Leroy Ebert
who lost his life in Hue,
South Vietnam March 21, 1968.

OUR MIKE
By Bob Immel

The sacrifices that we give
If they be bad or good,
Are often hard to realize
And harder understood.

The burden seems unbearable
The price is sometimes high,
With God alone to comprehend
Or know the reason why.

Our Mike was but a growing boy
He loved, he laughed, he cried,
For like a boy he lived his life
But, like a man he died.

He always did his very best
Right from the very start,
And we will always know that he
Did more than just his part.

He was loved by all who knew him
His friends were everywhere,
Perhaps that's why this had to happen
While he was over there.

For no one Mike had ever met
Could have dealt him such a blow
It had to be from someone that
He didn't even know.

Now, his parents and his brother
Must somehow face the fact
That Mike is in a better place
And is never coming back.

Where all young soldiers go who fought
And gave their very best,
Mike stands up straight and tall and proud
And stands out from all the rest.

Sadly Missed
By his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Dean Ebert
and brother, David Ebert

Please know that you are not forgotten. We remember you as an athletic champion, a classmate, and friend, but most of all, as a fellow veteran who gave the ultimate sacrifice for his family, friends, and country. Rest in peace and know that you are remembered fondly and sadly missed.

I just want to say to the Ebert family that Mike is in our prayers.

Even to his cousins and relatives who only knew him as their hero,
and looked up to him when I was but a young boy of 10

I'll always remember him,
and wish I could thank him for our freedom.

Sincerely, Mike's cousin,
C. Douglas Mitchell

My name is Zack Rodriguez and I am reading these wall postings as an assignment for my ROTC class at the University of Texas.

As a future officer of the United States Army, reading these postings has really opened my eyes to the personal loss to family and friends that goes along with every soldier who does not return home.

More than ever, I now see the future soldiers that I will be leading as my responsibility, not only for their well being, but for their families as well.

I would like to thank Corporal Ebert for his sacrifice along with every other veteran willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.

Sincerely,
Zack Rodriguez

Memorial Water Fountain

The Greenfield Parks and Recreation Departments was a recipient of a drinking fountain and a park bench for the Pennsy Trail, donated by the Ebert family in memory of Michael L. Ebert, who answered his country's call in Vietnam. Pictured from left are Sharon Johnson and Chuck Darby of the Greenfield Parks Department, Mayor Rodney Fleming, Donald Ebert, Sharon Ebert, Thelma Ebert, and friends of the family Dorothy Hogan and Florence Cummings.

The area pictured above is located along a bike/running trail, "Pennsy Trail", in Greenfield, Mike's home town.

The plaque is mounted on a stone from the Riley School, where Mike went to grade school.
