Dear George,

Hello my brother, I want you to know that you are so terribly missed by us that survived Nam! You were a classic dude, one of those that didn't fit into a mold like the rest of us. You were friends with all levels of soldier, because you didn't try to put us in a mold either. You accepted us for who and what we were. Trying to think of something else to say that will honor you and demonstrate to those that read this memorial page of mine what a great and fearless soldier you were to the end may not be sufficient, so I'll just close now.... Peace and love forever, I'll see you again someday, and we'll talk more then. You will never be forgotten.

9TH INFANTRY DIVISION
The 3rd/5th Cavalry was dismounted in February, 1943, and re-organized under Infantry Tables of
Organization and Equipment. It was re-organized wholly as Infantry in July, 1945, but retained its
Cavalry designation. After Korea, the 3rd/5th Cavalry was de-activated in 1958. In 1966, it was
activated for duty with the 9th Infantry Division "Old Reliables". Upon arrival, the Black Knights
joined in the Division's first major contact of the war -- Operation Colby in 1967.
