The database page for Ronald Burk Bishop
We were settled into our new location at Rach Kien, Vietnam as the 5th/60th Inafntry, 9th Infantry Division, before Sergeant Ronnie Bishop joined our elite company on 01 Dec 68. Ron was assigned to Alpha Company's 3rd Platoon as a fire team leader. He was very receptive to the "Words of Wisdom" offered to him by the seasoned soldiers in his unit. Sergeant Bishop was a quick learner and began contributing to the success of our company almost immediately. Ron was a natural born leader with good demonstrated skills. He was respected by his peers and superiors, but most of all by his men. Sergeant Bishop gained more responsible positions as he gained combat experience. Ron also achieved the well deserved rank of Staff Sergeant and a position as Platoon Sergeant. As the 9th Infantry Division started the pullout from Vietnam, some of us started getting orders to leave. It was both happy times and sad times at that point. We were happy to get to go home, but sad to leave our other Nam Brothers behind. We knew that we were leaving the company in good hands with leaders like SSG Bishop. On 17 Sep 69 while on a mission Ron was lost to enemy fire. That news saddened me and others who had served with SSG Bishop. Not only had the US Army lost a excellent soldier, but we had lost one of our "BAND OF BROTHERS". We love you Ronnie and miss you very much. |
