I bought this man's bracelet when I was ten at an airshow at Davis Monthan AFB, that was in 1990. I am a teacher now and I brought this bracelet to school and the students encouraged me to "Google" it. I did and found his pilot that he perished with in Vietnam. That led me to another page www.no-quarter.org and this site gave me additional information. If anyone has any other information, I would love to hear it. I hope he and his family have found peace. I will have this bracelet and remember what I have read always.

A Note from The Virtual WallOn 13 July 1968 Capt John C. Hurst, pilot, and 1stLt Leonard A. Bird, radar intercept officer, of VMFA-115 at Chu Lai were conducting a close air support mission about 10 miles south of Khe Sanh in F-4B BuNo 150650. The F-4 was hit by ground fire during its second pass at the target, burst into flames, and crashed before either crewman could escape the aircraft. Because the aircraft was under observation from the time it was hit until ground impact the two men were declared killed in action. Their bodies have not been recovered. |
