The photo and following article is taken from The Philadelphia Daily News, special supplement entitled 'SIX HUNDRED AND THIRTY,' October 26, 1987. The special supplement was issued in conjunction with the dedication of the Philadelphia Viet Nam Memorial. The 20-year-old Army corporal attended Overbrook High School and painted cars and trucks before entering the service in August 1967. Allen, an Army "Pioneer" scout, joined Company B of the 8th Engineer Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), in Viet Nam a week before Christmas Day 1967 and was killed in action on February 26, 1968. He was survived by his parents, two younger brothers and three younger sisters.
