The photo and following article is taken from The Philadelphia Daily News, special supplement entitled 'SIX HUNDRED AND THIRTY,' October 26, 1987. The special supplement was issued in conjunction with the dedication of the Philadelphia Viet Nam Memorial. Alexander, 20, enlisted in the Army in November 1968 after graduating from Upper Moreland High School and working in construction for six months. The private first class, a heavy equipment operator with the 31st Engineer Battalion in Viet Nam, died on April 3, 1970, when his unit came under fire.
